OUR
TREATMENT
Various experiments were tried by NAVJYOTI to evolve a unique model for treatment and
rehabilitation of drug addicts. The model in use now, is a medico-psycho-social and
spiritual model incorporating the 12 Steps Programme, Therapeutic Community (TC)
model,Yoga, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and NAVJYOTI's 13 years of valuable experience in
dealing with drug addicts. NAVJYOTI's de-addiction programme is based on the belief that
drug dependency is a chronic, progressive and potentially fatal disease which is treatable
and that the recovery process can be an experience of freedom, happiness and joy. Its main
goal is to provide an environment that offers the best possible opportunity for recovery
of the dependants. The programme is free from physical effects of chemical drugs. The
patients learn the fundamentals skills of recovery and make a commitment to a drug free
and healthy life style.
THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY (TC) MODEL
For last 5 years NAVJYOTI has been using the TC Model for long term treatment and
rehabilitation of drug addicts. Facilities are available for housing 30 patients at a time
for this programme, based on a family concept. The resident group has a timetable. Members
share responsibilities in various areas like house keeping, record keeping, and mess
maintenance. There is a clear cut hierarchy and positons in the hierarchy are earned by
performance. This model has proved to be very effective in putting broken lives of addicts
back on the track of recovery. The National Institute of Social Defence (Ministry of
Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) recognizes NAVJYOTI as a resource
centre, as a part of 3-month All India counselors training programme.
HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT
NAVJYOTI offers a multidisciplinary treatment programme, which addresses the physical,
mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of illness. NAVJYOTI provides treatment for each
of these dimensions so that the patients may return to their families, jobs and the
society with improved physical and mental well being, free from chemical dependency and
equipped with the tools necessary to maintain a drug free life style. Homeopathy treatment
is non-narcotic and non-addictive for addicts. It does not cause any known physical
dependency.
YOGA AND NATUROPATHY
By incorporating Yoga and Naturopathy, the programme aims at improving the physical,
mental, moral and spiritual aspects of human life by adapting a holistic method of
treatment, which besides being drugless is free from side effects. The basic aim is to
stabilize the inner body system to prevent re-occurence of disease. These methods ensure
positive health, longevity and happiness as they entail a lifestyle where the internal,
vital life giving forces of human body are synchronized and interplayed with the forces of
nature. The nature cure treatment is based on a hospital concept and is carried out
indoors especially for about a period of four to six weeks. The programme
incorporates the following steps while imparting treatment:
Environment is maintained to be natural and
encouraging || Patients are
allowed to recover in a healthy environment under the direct supervision of Naturopaths || Group meetings are organized with the
family members and peer groups with fixed periodicity || Necessary care and precautions are taken to ensure the patients have no
contact with drug peddlers || Recovered
patients are asked to counsel recovering patients to build their self-confidence and
respect || Necessary care is
taken to avoid relapse by ensuring regular contact with the patient and the family.
EAR ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a theory developed by the ancient Chinese and involves stimulating
designated points on the skin by insertion of needles, application of heat, massage or a
combination of all. It is done with very thin flexible needles made of stainless steel or
silver alloys. Acupuncture helps in the process of Detoxification, Relapse management and
Stress Management. Ear Acupuncture helps people to recover from drug and alcohol
addiction. During the detoxification process, the addict's body filters out the toxins
that the patient has been storing.
